A native of Indiana, David M. Daftary obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in International Relations from Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service in 2000. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Notre Dame Law School in 2003, where he served as Executive Editor of the Journal of Legislation.
Mr. Daftary has been licensed to practice law in the State of California since 2003. He is also licensed to practice in the US District Court for the Southern District of California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the Fiorenzo V. Lopardo American Inns of Court chapter in Carlsbad and the North County (San Diego) Bar Association.
With experience working in both the public and private sectors, Mr. Daftary has a diverse and extensive background in practicing law. Previously serving as a Deputy City Attorney for Oceanside, California, Mr. Daftary handled litigation for the city and served as an adviser to several city departments. While working for the city, he co-authored an appellate brief in a case regarding the Vienna Convention on Consular Rights that was argued before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. [Cornejo v. County of San Diego, et al., 504 F.3d 853 (9th Cir. 2007)].
Mr. Daftary left the City of Oceanside to work for the San Diego law offices of Koeller, Nebeker, Carlson & Haluck and for Endeman, Lincoln, Turek & Heater (now known as Allen, Semelsberger & Kaelin), where he represented clients in complex civil actions involving dozens of parties. While at Endeman Lincoln, Mr. Daftary represented San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E) in eminent domain actions to acquire easements for Sunrise Powerlink and the East County Substation projects. He also served as Counsel to the Golden Valley Municipal Water District.
Armed with the practical experience he gained from these firms and government agencies, Mr. Daftary started his own civil litigation law practice based in Carlsbad, California in 2013. The Law Office of David M. Daftary specializes in handling disputes involving real property, personal injury, professional negligence, construction, and public entities.
Despite his busy schedule, Mr. Daftary maintains an active involvement in community service. Since 2009, he has been a member of the Optimist Club of Carlsbad. He previously served as a member of the club’s Board of Directors for five years, which included three years as treasurer and one year as president. As part of his work with the Optimist Club, Mr. Daftary coordinates speech contests for children and teenagers in the Carlsbad area. He is an active member of the local Georgetown and Notre Dame Alumni clubs and previously served on the Board of Directors for the Georgetown Club of San Diego.
